Community Nursing Services
Community Nursing services are based in GP practices, the health centres or community hospitals. The service aims to provide nursing care to patients in their own homes. Examples of the care that the community nurses provide includes supporting patients discharged from hospital, palliative care for dying patients and caring for patients with serious disabilities. The community nursing teams work closely with other agencies such as the County Council's Community and Adult Care Directorate and the community hospitals.
School Nursing Services
The school nursing service can be accessed through schools, they work in partnership with children, young people, families, teachers, schools, and other agencies both statutory and voluntary. They aim to facilitate healthy life style choices and improve the health and wellbeing of children and young people throughout school life so that children may reach their full potential.
School nursing teams provide school entry health screening and 'drop-in' sessions for young people. They offer advice and support, and can listen (confidentially) on a one to one basis. They refer and liaise with other people and organisations. School nurses also undertake immunisations and other health screening activities. They support children with chronic and complex medical and provide advice to families and teachers.
School nurses promote health via personal social health education sessions and sexual health relationship education. This is in addition to mental health and emotional wellbeing support and addressing the needs of children who are looked after or excluded from school. They are also responsible for working with others to safeguard children and all their work is in line with Every Child Matters, Change for Children principles.
Health Visitors
The health visiting service can be accessed from Children's Centres (some within Libraries) GP practices or health centres. The health visiting team support the under fives and their families. Their role includes support and early detection and prevention of ill health. They provide a health screening service, health promotional programmes such as smoking cessation, nutrition and advice, guidance and signposting to other services. They are also responsible for working with others to safeguard children and all their work is in line with Every Child Matters, Change for Children principles. They work with a full range of professionals, both within statutory and voluntary agencies and particularly within Gloucestershire County Council's Young People's Directorate.

Musculoskeletal Assessment and Treatment Service
The MSKCAT service is a new service commissioned by your GPs to ensure those people who have a musculoskeletal problem (a problem with their muscles, bones or joints e.g. lower back pain) are promptly assessed by the correct specialist health professional. This assessment aims to take place as close to home as possible. Following the assessment a plan will be made between the health professional and yourself recommending the best course of action for your particular problem. Read More
