The Drug and Alcohol Team
NHS Gloucestershire has worked with the Gloucestershire Safer Stronger Communities Partnership to agree a new county wide Alcohol Harm Reduction strategy.
The three year plan sets out the current picture of alcohol harm nationally and locally, and outlines what we are currently doing and need to do in the future to address the issue.
The strategy has been developed through a multi-agency consultation, facilitated by the Gloucestershire Drug and Alcohol Working Group. The group, who will also oversee the implementation of the strategy, includes representatives from NHS Gloucestershire, Gloucestershire County Council, Gloucestershire Constabulary, and the Voluntary Assembly. Service Users are also represented.
The strategy includes an Implementation plan for the next year. Priority actions include:
- Measures to strengthen the identification and treatment of individuals who may be at risk from alcohol misuse
- Education initiatives through schools and colleges targeting children and young people
- Initiatives to reduce alcohol related crime and disorder
- Work to engage retailers in developing a consistent standard of responsible retailing.
