Preferred site for Moreton Health and Social Care campus confirmed

10/11/2009

NHS Gloucestershire is pleased to announce the preferred site of the new health and social care campus in Moreton in Marsh.

The Trust has confirmed that it has selected and secured the site at Fosse Way (adjacent to the Garden Centre) and will be submitting a planning application shortly.

The new campus will include inpatient services, diagnostic facilities such as x-ray, along with a Minor Injury Unit and outpatient services.

NHS Gloucestershire is looking at ways of increasing the range of outpatient clinics, offering health and well-being support, new day care procedures and mobile services. The plans also include replacements for White House and Mann Cottage GP surgeries.

News of the preferred site follows a comprehensive assessment involving community and patient representatives. It looked at issues such as planning matters, the impact on the environment, access for patients, the impact on highways, flooding and financial issues and risks.

The Department of Health has already announced funding to help support development of the new facility.

In addition to bed based care within the facility, community teams of health and social care staff will work jointly to support people in their own homes, using new technology such as telecare.

Chief Executive of NHS Gloucestershire, Jan Stubbings said:

“This is great news for local patients. Given the economic challenges facing the country and the county and the increasing demand for local services, it will be important that future developments are sustainable for the coming years.”

“However, we remain totally committed to the North Cotswolds project as a whole and making sure that local people can continue to access key services such as outpatient clinics, community beds and support from health and social care teams near to where they live.”

Subject to planning permission, work on site is expected to get underway in Summer 2010 and the campus is expected to open in 2012.
