Equality and Diversity

Our Values

One of the central tenets of our vision of achieving excellence in health for the people of Gloucestershire is the value we place on the diversity of our staff and our population. We are committed to creating equality in life expectancy by ensuring that services are available to all equally in terms of need, taking full account of personal circumstances and diversity. As an employer, we are committed to delivering equality of opportunity for all staff. We are committed to building a diverse workforce which reflects the community we serve to ensure we respond to the health needs of our local population.

Our Work

NHS Gloucestershire Equality and Diversity Committee

Our Equality and Diversity Committee was set up with Board level leadership and with accountability to the NHS Gloucestershire Board. Its aim is to take the lead and drive forward the Equality and Diversity work within NHS Gloucestershire. It oversees the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the NHS Gloucestershire’s statutory requirements on Human Rights and Equality and Diversity, and meets on a bi-monthly basis.

Recruitment and Selection

Along with other NHS organisations we recognise and actively promote the benefits of a diverse workforce and are committed to treating all employees with dignity and respect regardless of race, gender, disability, age, sexual orientation, religion or belief. We therefore welcome applications from all sections of the community. For more information please see the Work For Us section.

Staff Training

We provide training for our staff both at Induction and as part of their on-going development. We run workshops to support the completion of Equality Impact Assessments. All our staff are required to complete our mandatory Equality & Diversity training programme

Pacesetters Programme

NHS Gloucestershire is proud to have been chosen as a participant in the Pacesetters (Wave 2) Programme. The Pacesetters Programme aims to tackle inequalities in health services and in the workplace arising out of discrimination and disadvantage. We firmly believe that participation in the Programme will help us fulfil our commitment to put people at the centre of our health agenda by proactively engaging and consulting with communities in order to understand the challenges which they face and their needs and aspirations in relation to their health and well being. We believe this is a crucial part of our approach to commissioning and supporting the delivery of high quality and appropriate services that are responsive to the differing needs of all our communities.

Our Services

We have described the ways in which we will embed equality and diversity principles into our service delivery. For details please click on our Action Plans (see Schemes, Strategies and Action Plans section above).
